Welcome from the Headteacher

At BESA, we recognise the significance of preparing our students for the challenges of an ever-changing world. We aim to guide them in becoming global citizens who actively contribute to creating a positive impact on society.

In an ever-changing world, the children of today will have the opportunity to navigate multiple professional careers, some of which may not even exist yet. Therefore, our educational approach is centered around cultivating students to have a flexible and novel skillset. We encourage them not only to be academically proficient but also to embody qualities such as kindness, strength, focus, openness to new ideas, thoughtfulness, and boldness in their pursuits.

By instilling these YSR 6110values, we empower our students to adapt to diverse situations, think critically, and embrace innovation. Our commitment lies in fostering a learning environment where students are not just recipients of knowledge but active contributors to shaping a better, more inclusive, and harmonious global society. In the words of the Greek philosopher Plutarch, 'The mind is not a vessel to be filled, but a fire to be kindled.'

This philosophy aligns with our commitment to nurturing well-rounded individuals who not only excel academically but also develop critical thinking skills and a passion for continuous learning. We believe that education goes beyond the mere accumulation of facts; it is a dynamic process that sparks the flame of curiosity and enables students to become lifelong learners.

From our Nursery class through to our Year 9 students, the thematic approach to learning taken by the IEYC (International Early Years Curriculum), IPC (International Primary Curriculum), and IMYC (International Middle Years Curriculum) provides a context that makes learning accessible yet challenging. The rigour of the British Curriculum in English and Mathematics combines with international curricula to ensure that children make excellent academic progress at BESA, taking creative risks whilst supported by outstanding teaching and high-quality learning environments.

I cannot write about BESA without mentioning the outdoor learning environment that sets our school apart.  We feel incredibly fortunate to have a dedicated space in the heart of Ankara that offers children a unique and enriching experience. This space includes its very own woods for imaginative play,  areas for sports and ball games, and specialised outdoor learning classrooms.

Our Forest School, in particular, provides a hands-on experience, allowing students to explore and learn in a natural setting.  By incorporating the outdoor learning environment into our educational philosophy, we aim to nurture not only academic excellence but also an appreciation for the world around us. It's a testament to our commitment to providing a well-rounded education that goes beyond traditional classroom boundaries which sets us apart and creates the unique experience that is BESA.

We would be truly delighted to welcome you on a school tour to experience our school firsthand. Witness the outdoor learning spaces, meet our team, and explore the unique features that make BESA a place where students thrive in both knowledge and appreciation for the world around them.
