The Secondary department at BESA serves students in Year 7 through Year 11, catering to learners aged 11 to 16 years. Our educational approach is designed to provide a seamless transition from Primary education, equipping students with the skills and knowledge they need to thrive in their academic and personal lives.
In the initial stages of Secondary education, students follow the English, Maths, and Science components of the National Curriculum for England and Wales. This foundation is complemented by the International Middle Years Curriculum (IMYC) in our foundation subjects, providing a broad and engaging learning experience that fosters international perspectives and critical thinking.
As students progress to Years 10 and 11, they transition into the iGCSE curriculum, which is delivered in partnership with Cambridge Assessment International Education. This structured approach not only prepares students for their examinations but also encourages them to develop essential study skills, resilience, and a love for learning.
At BESA, we prioritise the holistic development of our students through a robust Form Time approach. Each student participates in daily sessions that include personalised careers advice, helping them to make informed decisions about their future pathways. Our comprehensive Personal, Social, and Health Education (PSHE) program is designed to support students in navigating the complexities of adolescence, focusing on their emotional and social well-being alongside their academic growth.
We recognise that the physical and mental health of our students is paramount. Our dedicated staff members work collaboratively to create a safe and nurturing environment where students feel valued and supported. Regular workshops and activities promote awareness around mental health, resilience, and self-care, ensuring that students are equipped with the tools they need to manage the challenges they may face.
As they enter Year 10, students are given the opportunity to select from a diverse range of iGCSE options, allowing them to tailor their education to their individual interests and strengths. Currently, we offer the following subjects:
