Hello, I'm Shakila Akbar, the Assistant Head Teacher Secondary at the British Embassy School, Ankara. I joined the school in August 2021, having previously spent 18 years working in schools across the UK. I started my career as an Information Systems Developer in Leeds which is when I realised I had a passion for teaching and wanted to make a difference in young people's lives. The past 3 years have been incredibly rewarding and a privilege to teach such wonderful, respectful and talented students. My educational philosophy lies in valuing every individual, giving them a feeling of belonging and believing that they can achieve anything they set their mind and heart to, regardless of their background or personal characteristics. Empowering them with the knowledge and skills needed to transform their lives. I am excited to have been given the opportunity to support the transition of the Middle Years to the Secondary phase at BESA and look forward to seeing the positive impact this has on the school, local and international community over the coming years.
